What's in it for Mentees

Mentees are young people between the ages of 12-21 who perceive they have a need related to personal issues, education, work or achievement. A mentor is someone who has a deep personal interest in helping young people. A mentor is a friend who cares about you and your long term development.

Mentoring is a concept that has existed, formally and informally, since the beginning of time. All of us who are successful can think back and remember those individuals in our own or extended family, as well as in the community. These people have guided us, and provided us with unconditional friendship.

Mentees benefit from having a mentor by:

  1. An opportunity for an equal friendship with an adult;
  2. Building of self-worth;
  3. Help with setting and achieving goals;
  4. Awareness of supports within the community for youth; and
  5. A chance to make a go of life with your own skills and talents through;
  6. Improved job search skills, job readiness
  7. Increased positive attitude towards work
  8. Support that will help to complete apprenticeships and traineeships
  9. Support that will improve school performance because of guidance and encouragement.
